Choosing Baptismal God Parents

1. Sponsors are to be at least 16 years old who have been confirmed.

2. There is to be only one male sponsor or one female sponsor or one of each.

a. Only one sponsor is required

b. No more than two sponsors are permissible

3. A baptized person (16 years or older) who belongs to a non-Catholic ecclesial community is not be participate except together with a Catholic sponsor and then only as a witness of the baptism

a. In such a case the confirmed Catholic servers as the sponsor, the non-catholic as a Christian witness.

b. The Christian witness should not be someone who left the Catholic Church

c. The baptism certificate will indicate the person is a Christian witness rather than an official sponsor.

4. A Catholic who is 16 years or older, who has not been confirmed may serve as a Christian witness.
